Thanks to somebody on Facebook, I saw Gian Lorenzo Bernini's "The Rape of Proserpina" (1621) last night. I may actually have seen this sculpture in person as a boy when my father to me to Italy back in the '70s, but I can't say for certain. In any event, it is simply astonishing what Bernini, then only 23 years old, was able to do in marble some 400 years ago!
