Ubuntu – wifi frustrations!

A local woman gave me her PC recently. Unfortunately, the Microsoft XP Professional system on it was not valid and so I couldn’t update it. I decided that rather than spend the $149 to Microsoft for them to validate the system, I’d give Ubuntu a chance.

I put Ubuntu 7.0.4 on the box as a full hardrive install (i.e, “buh bye” XP!), and so far I’m very impressed by what I see with the system. However, the wireless connection setup has completely eluded me (I’m trying not to think of all the hours I’ve spent the last few days chasing solutions that didn’t work, yikes!).

anyhow….

The wifi PCI card I chose to use is a D-Link DWL-520+, which I bought largely because of it’s favorable rank on the Ubuntu site. Yesterday I posted to the Ubuntu site forums about my problem and so far have received one reply (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=553862)

I’ve decided that if/when I get this wifi connection issue resolved that I’m going to post the steps taken here and on Ubuntu so that others using the 520+ cards might save some time. If by chance YOU already happen to know how to do this, please let me know! 🙂

Thanks,

-Bob
