Watching movies from the 1990's on Netflix reveals just how ubiquitous the synthesizer was being used for soundtracks. Particularly awful were the attempts at orchestral scores, with strings and winds that sound nothing like their real counterparts. No doubt much of this was simply cost cutting made by producers and unscrupulous film composers looking to replace musicians with a "one-man-band" solution using the synthesizer for everything. Maybe the scores sounded better back then, they're laughable today.
