Ebooks have it over printed books in one key way, research.

One of the things that ebooks have that printed books don't is search. For example, in the PDF of the Jazz Theory Book by Mark Levine, a student can find every mention of the term "Dorian" (or any other term for that matter), instantly. This is something a printed book can not do. So from a research point of view, ebooks have it hands down over their printed predecessors.
