Dried Habanero peppers – make your own hot pepper!

Lately I’ve been revisiting some of the hot pepper sauces commercially available (Dave’s Insanity, Blair’s After Death) and have heated up some of my meals substantially using them. However, I can’t say I like the flavors of them all that much and so a few days ago I decided to try to make my own. I went to the local market and bought a package of dried Habanero peppers. After removing the stems, I used a Melitta coffee grinder to turn them into a fine powder. From there, I poured the powder into a small glass pepper shaker using a funnel (note to self: avoid getting dust into your eyes!). Now when I want to ‘spice up’ my food, a few very light sprinkles of this is all it takes.
