Lately I've been revisiting some of the hot pepper sauces commercially available (Dave's Insanity, Blair's After Death) and have heated up some of my meals substantially using them. However, I can't say I like the flavors of them all that much and so a few days ago I decided to try to make my own. I went to the local market and bought a package of dried Habanero peppers. After removing the stems, I used a Melitta coffee grinder to turn them into a fine powder. From there, I poured the powder into a small glass pepper shaker using a funnel (note to self: avoid getting dust into your eyes!). Now when I want to 'spice up' my food, a few very light sprinkles of this is all it takes.
