Diggers revolt

I’ve been following the Digg this if your sick of power users stealing stories. thread on Digg. This is probably the most popular post I’ve ever seen on the site and is generating a tremendous amount of buzz from Diggers – from those who are angry at the way Digg is being gamed to those who don’t care (or at least don’t see what harm is being done by the ‘power users’ on the site).

I’m in favor of Digg curtailing those who abuse the platform, though I’m not sure exactly what the best way for them to do that is. One idea I kept seeing worded one way or another in comment after comment was for Digg to make all submissions anonymous and to remove the friends and shout network. For example,

Just get rid of the friends/shouts system, and make it so that all stories are anonymous until they hit the front page. Done.

It’ll be interesting to see what response, if any, Digg has to all the noise.

  1. Nice to see that Digg’s staff have addressed the issue. It remains to be seen if anything will come of it though. Here’s to hoping!
