After storing the Husqvarna 5521S mower with the gas tank all but empty over the winter, I went to fire it up yesterday. No dice. On a whim, I gave it another pull this morning and it started right up. It's a seven year old machine, but still great at keeping down the weeds. I think this winter, I'll just start it up every week or two and let it run for a few minutes.
Last night I went to see Mike Birbiglia at the Wells Fargo Center in Santa Rosa. It was a very full house, not sold out, but judging from what I could see, perhaps 80% or more. Mike put on a good show. He started shortly after 8:00pm and ended at about 9:30pm. So roughly 90 minutes. Our two tickets were $45 each (plus fees came to $105.50).
Person Theater seats 1,500. Pretending for a moment that all seats cost the same and were filled, that's $79,125 for an hour and a half show, or $879 a minute! Now obviously Mike doesn't get all that loot, but he no doubt gets a lot of it. As the old song goes, "Nice work if you can get it."

Maybe this has been answered somewhere, but I recently joined Netflix and using Apple TV, movies stream instantly. Contrast this to renting a movie from Apple where typically I have to wait an hour or more for the movie to load before I can watch it. Why is this?
Yesterday I went to the Green Boheme in Sacramento. After lunch, I paid for the bill on an iPad. This is not the first time I've done this at a restaurant, Papa's & Pollo in Sebastopol gets that. However, unlike Papa's & Pollo, the Green Boheme offered to have my receipt emailed to me, then had me sign with my finger on the iPad. All in all, very cool.

I find it pretty amazing that given all the research and case studies about usability, that there still are so many websites by companies out there that are as poorly designed as they are. Take for example, add to cart button placement and size. Why put it in a place the eye is not likely to see right away or in a font color or size that makes it appear as somehow not important? If you're trying to sell something, don't make me have to hunt and peck all over the page for how to do that.
Health care for the uninsured in America sucks. I refuse to buy into it's just-nothing-short-of-extortion policies. If need be, I'd rather travel the world.
Kind of a trip to think nearly all the performers (as well as those in the audience) in Bert Stern's color film "Jazz on a Summer's Day" from the 1958 Newport Jazz Festival are long dead by now. Fortunately, their music lives on!
